Information about the project „ Preservation and availability
of Pomeranian heritage by means of Cultural Park foundation
in Wejherowo” will be financed by European Union from the
financial resources of European Regional Development Fund
within the scope of Integrated Operating Program of Regional
Development.
Background and justification
Wejherowo city is called the spiritual capital of Cashubia.
It is the result of Wejherowski's Calvary presence also
called North Jerusalem which is the oldest Sanctuary of
the Passion in Poland along with Zebrzydowska's Calvary.
The Calvary of Wejherowo entering into the monument register
makes the complex of 26 chapels (25 are from the 17 th
Century)and it is situated on the borders of Pomerana and
Cashubia District. Literature and Pomerania-Cashubia Music
Museum deals with the presentation of cultural heritage
in Wejherowo.
The need of project realization strictly arises from the
present bad condition of Calvary of Wejherowo monuments (chapels),
also from its unsatisfactory functioning as well as from restricted
availability. It results in the lack of its full usage of
cultural and tourist potential.
The chapels are to be found in the damp forest surrounding
with little possibility to air, they are endangered on soaking
through, walls and wooden elements corrosion. The condition
of their roofs does not allow for the proper rainwater piping
that is why the monuments deteriorate. The maintaining dampness
in the walls generates the mycosis process. Stopping the conservation
actions may cause complete damaging of the monuments.
The set of the calvarias paths is not capacious enough to
prevent to maximal extent the forest environment against stamping
and in consequence the appearance of erosion phenomenon.
The existing terrain stairs arrangement qualifies to a complete
renovation. There is the lack of parking lots and lighting
which causes the safety deficiency.
The inefficient promotion of Wejherowski's Calvary and its
marking in the area cause that it is not treated as cultural-tourist
attraction. The project was emerged on the base of needs analysis
judged in the rank range of particular cultural heritage objects,
technical needs, object's functioning and the effectiveness
of given tasks. The project was completely defined according
to given goals.
This project is in compliance with
the following planning documents:

of the condition and availability of the monuments:

abroad,
- Strengthening of human resources in sphere of monuments
protection,
- Raising the social awareness considering cultural
heritage.

activity 1.4., the aim of which is the growth of culture
and tourism value as the factor stimulating the regional
economic development as well as availing the cultural historic
and nature regional potential.

Province Development. The project realizes the aims of tourism
foundation based on taking advantage of exquisite cultural
heritage and scenery of Cashubia (priority 2), supporting
the cultural variability of the region (priority 4), as
well as historic heritage perseverance by means of supporting
sacral monumental objects. (Priority 4).
